Computational Model Library

Our mission is to help computational modelers develop, document, and share their computational models in accordance with community standards and good open science and software engineering practices. Model authors can publish their model source code in the Computational Model Library with narrative documentation as well as metadata that supports open science and emerging norms that facilitate software citation, computational reproducibility / frictionless reuse, and interoperability. Model authors can also request private peer review of their computational models. Models that pass peer review receive a DOI once published.

All users of models published in the library must cite model authors when they use and benefit from their code.

Style_Net_01 is a spatial agent-based model designed to serve as a platform for exploring geographic patterns of tool transport and discard among seasonally mobile hunter-gatherer populations. The model has four main levels: artifact, person, group, and system. Persons make, use, and discard artifacts. Persons travel in groups within the geographic space of the model. The movements of groups represent a seasonal pattern of aggregation and dispersal, with all groups coalescing at an aggregation site during one point of the yearly cycle. The scale of group mobility is controlled by a parameter. The creation, use, and discard of artifacts is controlled by several parameters that specify how many tools each person carries in a personal inventory, how many times each tool can be used before it is discarded, and the frequency of tool usage. A lithic source (representing a geographically-specific, recognizable source of stone for tools) can be placed anywhere in the geographic space of the model.

Zooarchaeological evidences indicate that rabbit hunting became prevalent during the Upper Palaeolithic in the Iberian Peninsula.

The purpose of the ABM is to test if warren hunting using nets as a collective strategy can explain the introduction of rabbits in the human diet in the Iberian Peninsula during this period. It is analyzed whether this hunting strategy has an impact on human diet breadth by affecting the relative abundance of other main taxa in the dietary spectrum.
Model validity is measured by comparing simulated diet breadth to the observed diet breadth in the zooarchaeological record.

The agent-based model is explicitly grounded on the Diet Breadth Model (DBM), from the Optimal Foraging Theory (OFT).

ViSA 2.0.0 is an updated version of ViSA 1.0.0 aiming at integrating empirical data of a new use case that is much smaller than in the first version to include field scale analysis. Further, the code of the model is simplified to make the model easier and faster. Some features from the previous version have been removed.

The model explores the impact of journal metrics (e.g., the notorious impact factor) on the perception that academics have of an article’s scientific value.

The model presented here was created as part of my dissertation. It aims to study the impacts of topography and climate change on prehistoric networks, with a focus on the Magdalenian, which is dated to between 20 and 14,000 years ago.

HousingABM_Japan is a NetLogo agent-based model of the residential market of Tokyo’s 23 wards. It evaluates whether a single parameter configuration can jointly reproduce key features of prices, rents, yields, and market turnover across distinct market regimes from 2001 to 2025, with particular attention to demand- and supply-side trend-following during the 2021–2025 price surge.

The model builds on the Bank of England housing-market lineage (Baptista et al. 2016; Carro et al. 2023) and introduces four extensions: (1) dynamic linkages between the sale and rental markets through vacancy, rents, and yields; (2) heterogeneous demand-side trend-following; (3) supply-side trend-following through construction-cost trend anchoring and a momentum-dependent dynamic premium; and (4) housing-equity borrowing that converts unrealized equity into additional borrowing capacity.

Twenty parameters are calibrated using 2001–2015 data and held fixed for post-calibration evaluation over 2016–2020 and 2021–2025, while annual exogenous inputs follow observed historical paths. The model reproduces the shift from moderate price growth to the 2021–2025 surge, as well as rent acceleration, surge-period yield compression, and persistently low market turnover, although it understates the intermediate acceleration of 2016–2020.
