I am investigating the use of machine learning techniques in non-stationary modeling environments to better reproduce aspects of human learning and decision-making in human-natural system simulations.
I study he role of biologically-based motivations in the formation of socio-political phenomena using agent-based modelling techniques. In particular I look at how behaviour inhibition and activation, as well as interpersonal attitudes can shape the emergence of complex polities.

After graduating at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft, Kasper Lange started working as a Research and Development Engineer in the manufacturing Industry. After a couple of years he decided to dedicate his career to Sustainable Engineering research and education at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). In 2015 he received a scholarship from AUAS to start a PhD research project on Design Research for Industrial Symbiosis in Urban Agriculture. Christophe Le Page currently works at the Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD). Christophe does research on participatory modelling of the interactions between agriculture and the environment, focusing more specifically on the relationships among stakeholders about the management of natural renewable resources. Christophe is designing and using interactive agent-based simulation and role-playing games. He is an active member of the Companion Modelling research group.

Dr. Jiin Jung is a social psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Lehigh University. She also serves Secretary of the Computational Social Science of the Americas. Dr. Jung’s research focuses on how minority voices influence society and drive changes in social norms and cultural practices. She directs the Group Dynamics & Social Change Lab, which is dedicate to investigating psychological explanations for social change. Her lab explores topics such as minority influence on social change, minority responses to identity uncertainty and threat, and minority contributions to collective adaptation. Dr. Jung engages in policy initiatives geared toward democracy and gender equity.

Fabian Adelt graduated in computer-sciences with a minor in sociology of technology (degree: Diplom-Informatiker) at TU Dortmund University in 2011. Currently, he is research fellow at the Technology Studies Group and involved in the project “Collaborative Data- and Risk-Management in Future Grids – A Simulation Study” (KoRiSim). Between 2012 and 2015 he worked on the project “Mixed Modes of Governance as a Means of Risk Management in Complex Systems” (RiskSim). His research interests entail agent-based modelling and simulating of socio-technical systems, especially focussing on governance issues and actors’ reactions on interventions. Experience covers the fields of mobility and energy.
Mario Ureta holds a BSc in Economics from Birkbeck, University of London, a Graduate Diploma in Data Science from the London School of Economics, and an MSc in Data Science and Analytics from Brunel University London. He is currently a PhD student in Computing Science at Birkbeck, University of London. His research focuses on the economic study of individual preferences and decision-making, and on the use of agent-based models as a bridge between economic theory and computational experimentation. Through economic simulation, his work examines how heterogeneous preferences, social interaction, and firm behaviour jointly shape aggregate market outcomes, including non-linear dynamics and tipping points.
My research interests centre on the study of individual preferences in economics and on understanding how preferences evolve through interaction, learning, and social context. I am particularly interested in how seemingly weak or latent preferences—such as attitudes toward environmental attributes, prices, or social norms—can become amplified through feedback mechanisms and generate non-linear aggregate outcomes. A core methodological focus of my work is the use of agent-based modelling and economic simulation as a bridge between economic theory and experimentation. By treating agent-based models as computational laboratories, I explore how heterogeneous preferences, habit formation, peer influence, and firm behaviour interact dynamically, allowing theoretical mechanisms to be tested, stress-tested, and compared under controlled but flexible conditions that are difficult to achieve using purely analytical or empirical approaches.
