SciSpace LLC: Scientific Programmer (NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies)


SciSpace invites applications for one programmer position at NASA-Goddard Institute for Space Studies (NASA GISS) to assist in remote sensing and crop modeling for seasonal yield forecasting. Tasks will include the processing of remote sensing, crop model, and weather model data and their combination within data assimilation and forecasting systems. Interested candidates must have

  • a bachelor or higher degree in agronomy, computer science, mathematics, meteorology, physics or engineering,
  • familiarity with data analysis and visualization software (e.g. R, MATLAB, PYTHON),
  • strong interest to work within a group of scientists helping stakeholders prepare responses to Earth’s climate impacts.

SciSpace is particularly seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Application of process-based crop modeling
  • Scientific programming and model development
  • Analysis of probabilistic weather forecasts
  • High-performance computational systems
  • Remote sensing of agricultural system characteristics (e.g., vegetation, soil moisture, evapotranspiration, land use products)
  • Data assimilation in physical models

The successful candidate will provide programming support for a project led by GISS research scientists Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig and Dr. Alex Ruane.

The position is available immediately for a period of 1 year with a possible extension.
