An Agent-Based Model of Collective Action

Hai-Hua Hu | Published Tue Aug 20 16:45:15 2013

We provide an agent-based model of collective action, informed by Granovetter (1978) and its replication model by Siegel (2009). We use the model to examine the role of ICTs in collective action under different cultural and political contexts.

This agent-based model is to simulate the dynamics of social movement, drawing micro-mechanisms from collective behavior theory, resource mobilization theory, political process theory, and new social movement theory.

This model is to simulate the effect of local heterogeneity of opinion distribution on collective action.

This model is based on Granovetter’s threshold model of collective action, aiming to examine the effectiveness of strategies to hopefully manipulate collective action (such as to promote turnout or to repress protest).

Under development.
