The aim of the proposed Ph. D. project is to develop and evaluate alternative scenarios for spatially dispersed Net Zero lifestyles that entail viable rural communities and economies; with the viability being demonstrated through spatial agent-based social simulation. The following research questions could be investigated in pursuit of this aim, though the student will be encouraged to develop these questions themself:
To develop simulation models to assess the impact of aporophobia (rejection of the poor) on countries’ welfare states and social variables such as poverty and inequality. The selected candidate should provide technical support to the project on modelling and simulation based on agents, design experiments, analyse simulation results and contribute to research articles.

In the past weeks we have developed an agent based social simulation for the COVID crisis (ASSOCC). The results are continuously updated on the website of the project: https://simassocc.org/. At the moment we have quite a complex model that does a good job to simulate the epidemiological, economic and social effects of the crisis and their dependencies.
