Graduate Research Assistant Position in Agent-Based Modeling


We have recently been awarded a National Science Foundation, Coupled Natural and Human Systems project titled “Strengthening Resilience of Arid Region Riparian Corridors: Ecohydrology and Decision-Making in the Sonora and San Pedro Watersheds.”  See http://udallcenter.arizona.edu/wrpg/cnh/.

We are looking for a PhD candidate with background as programmer/systems developer specializing in agent-based modeling, particularly related to water and landuse decision-making. This position requires a background in environmental science, computer science, geography or related field, a specialty in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) with explicit skills in programming and development in computer applications. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of agent-based models (ABM) and operational and programming skills in NetLogo (http://ccl.northwestern.edu/netlogo/) and Java.

Candidates selected to receive the assistantship will have a full tuition waiver and receive a stipend and benefits according to the School they apply to and enroll in, tentatively starting Fall 2011.  Pending satisfactory progress with project-related research and with the students course of study, funding is available for four years.
