Post-Doc: Research Fellow in Disaster Risk Analysis and Communication

About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a researcher to help shape international research on weather risk perception and communication to improve the communication of weather warnings to public audiences in across different countries as part of the Lloyds Register Foundation funded project: Analysing Risk Perception and Preparedness to Develop Effective Disaster Risk Communication Strategies.

Running for three years the project will conduct a large-scale secondary data analysis of data from the 2019, 2021 and 2023 World Risk Polls to better understand weather risk perception and preparedness across countries, and use this to develop and test weather risk communication strategies in different focal countries.

The post will be based with the Centre for Decision Research at Leeds University Business School. With the guidance and support of the project PI (Dr Andrea Taylor) and CO-I’s (Dr Sarah Jenkins, Prof Barbara Summers, Prof Suraje Dessai and Dr Yim Ling Siu) the post holder will undertake a multi-level analysis of data from the world risk polls. They will work with other members of the research team to use the findings of this analysis to develop and test weather risk communication strategies with large samples in a series of 4-5 focal countries recruited through market research companies.

The Centre for Decision Research was founded in 1996 and has grown into a leading research centre, covering analytical and psychological aspects of decision making. Our research builds on basic and applied approaches to understand and support real-world decisions. The Centre hosts regular research meetings and seminars that are attended by researchers from across the university. The Centre additionally maintains active international interdisciplinary research collaborations.
