Responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible to synthesize literature and data to inform the development of quantitative modelling frameworks to quantify water and biogeochemical fluxes along gradients of land management, across spatial and temporal scales, and under a variety of socio-economic conditions. Case studies will include agricultural systems under alternative irrigation strategies (e.g., rice systems) and soil management (e.g., organic soil amendments). The chosen candidate is expected to lead the writing of articles on these topics and present results at international conferences.

Assessment criteria: The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. In the appointment process, special attention will be given to candidates with degrees in a relevant discipline (engineering, hydrology, geosciences) and a strong computational or mathematical background. Proven experience with computer programming (e.g., Matlab, R, Python) for data management and analysis is vital. Understanding of conceptual and process-based hydrologic and/or biogeochemical models is a merit. Experience of publishing in top-level journals in English is also important.

Terms of employment: The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2018-07-01 or as per agreement.
