I am now accepting applications for a funded 4-year Ph.D. degree program in environmental economics at the University of New Hampshire (UNH).

The selected student will conduct research on the economics of managing invasive plants in forests with heterogeneous landownership. The position is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute for Food and Agriculture. Click here for more details on the project.

The selected student will complete their Ph.D. in Economics at the Department of Economics at UNH. The position includes full tuition, a yearly stipend (academic year and summer), health insurance for 4 years, and conference travel budget. The start date for this position is August 20, 2018.

The successful candidate will work directly with the project’s PI, Dr. Shadi S. Atallah, Assistant Professor of Environmental and Resource Economics in the Environmental and Resource Economics program, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, and Affiliate Assistant Professor of Economics at the Paul College of Economics and Business; Dr. Ju-Chin Huang, Professor of Economics, Paul College of Economics and Business; and possibly, Dr. Jessica Leahy, Professor of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, University of Maine.

Qualifications: The successful applicant must hold a master’s degree in economics, agricultural and resource economics or a related field, and be accepted as a Ph.D. student to the doctoral program in Economics at UNH. Preference will be given to applicants with previous research involving bio-economic modeling, discrete-choice modeling, agent-based modeling, and/or applied game theory. Desired qualifications also include a strong interest in interdisciplinary and applied research, ability to work well independently and as part of a team of economists, human dimensions social scientists, and ecologists.
