Social-Ecological Networks and Agent Based Modelling

Students should be interested in agent-based modelling (ABM), network analysis, and participatory modelling. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Jacopo Baggio. The successful candidate should have a strong desire to engage in rigorous research that couples qualitative (e.g., interviews, focus groups, survey methods) and quantitative methods (network analysis, agent based modelling), and a strong desire to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and research projects.

The position includes a competitive stipend, tuition and health insurance benefits. Funds for professional development purposes (e.g., conference presentations) are available. This position is funded annually and is renewable each year based on satisfactory progress.

Cognitive and Social Science in Managing Social-Ecological Systems

Students should be interested in learning a diverse set of theories form the social and natural sciences, experimental methods, and agent-based modelling (ABM). The successful student will work under the joint supervision of Dr. Jacopo Baggio and Dr. Jacob Freeman. The successful applicant should have a strong desire to engage in rigorous research and work in a highly interdisciplinary environment. The position (pending finalization of funding) includes full-time tuition, health insurance benefits, and a stipend. 1. Reconstructing county-scale water uses in rainfed and irrigated agriculture by fusing data on land use and crop production with water use modeling under the supervision of Prof. Christopher Lant
  2. The development of agent-based models explaining the observed historical evolution of the US Food-Energy-Water system in response to shocks and stresses under the supervision of Dr. Jacopo Baggio

Both position are part of a large, multi-university interdisciplinary project. Qualified candidates should have a strong desire to engage in interdisciplinary research at the interface of natural and social sciences using qualitative and quantitative methods (survey, focus groups, GIS, statistics, network analysis, agent-based modelling). Both positions include a competitive stipend, tuition and health insurance benefits. Funds for professional development purposes (e.g., conference presentations) are available. This position is funded annually and is renewable each year based on satisfactory progress.
