Post-Doctoral Position in London, Ontario, Canada Using Scenario Analysis and Modeling on Aquatic Ecosystem Services

Funding is available for one post-doctoral fellowship with the Canadian Network for Aquatic Ecosystem Services (CNAES). The fellowship is based out of Western University in London, Ontario in collaboration with Alberta Innovates in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The project will involve scenario analysis to develop alternative futures of forest aquatic ecosystem services and assess the economic and ecological risks of policy options under alternative futures. The successful candidate will be expected to develop agent based simulation models of land use change in order to test policies for management of forest aquatic ecosystem services with a focus on reserve design and offset and compensation strategies. Candidates should have experience and/or interest in agent based modeling, preferably using Net Logo; complexity modeling at multiple spatial and temporal scales; and integration of ecological and economic systems in simulation models. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to communicate and work with stakeholders.

The position would start in May or September 2014.

The Canadian Network on Aquatic Ecosystem Services (CNAES) is an NSERC Strategic Network investigating the relationship between aquatic ecosystem services (AES) and different environmental stressors.

This project is being co-led by Dr. Irena Creed at Western University and Dr. Marian Weber at Alberta Innovates Technology Futures. While the position is posted at Western University, the candidate will also collaborate closely with researchers at Alberta Innovates Technology Futures.
