Assistant Professor in Marine Economics and Policy

The University of Maine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Marine Economics and Policy, a nine-month (academic year) tenure track position with teaching (50%) and research (50%) responsibilities. The position is a joint (50/50) appointment between the Schools of Economics and Marine Sciences.

Responsibilities: Develop a rigorous research program in marine economics and policy; actively engage in educating and advising graduate and undergraduate students in both Schools; obtain external research support; participate in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and teaching activities; and contribute to public and University service. Teaching will include economics and policy courses supporting the School of Economics’ degree programs (www.umaine.edu/soe) and the School of Marine Sciences’ Marine Policy/Dual Degree program (www.umaine.edu/marine).

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in economics, resource or environmental economics, natural resource management or other field applicable to the social aspects of marine and coastal resource management is required by date of hire. Advanced training in microeconomics and quantitative methods; and excellent written and oral communication skills are also required.

Preferred Qualifications: Potential for or demonstrated experience in research, teaching and grantsmanship; conducting collaborative interdisciplinary research with natural and social scientists, and with people outside a University setting; and publishing in high-quality refereed journals. Interests in applied research of marine and coastal resource management issues; coupled natural and human systems; or computational modeling.
