The study of social dynamical structures in communication networks can be studied using a variety of methods and approaches. The 2009 edition of the Complexity Sciences Winter School aims to provide an overview of the interdisciplinary approach to the study of social dynamics and communications networks. The Winter School brings together researchers to report on progress in the study of social networks, computer networks and multi-agent based social simulation. While computer network approaches concern mainly the hardware and software design of networks, social network theory permits network analysis and employs tools and insights from the social sciences. Multi-agent based social simulation provides tools for model design, hypotheses testing and validation.
