Agricultural diversity is one of the bases of traditional agro-ecosystems, having great environmental and cultural importance. The current loss of crop diversity is causing serious concern, mainly because of its essential role in supporting global and local food security. A better understanding of how diversity is managed locally and what mechanisms sustain crop diversity is important in order to stop this loss. This model is a generalist agent-based model that couples biological, cultural, and social dynamics to obtain crop diversity as an emergent phenomena at the community level. The model parameterization was intended to reproduce qualitative empirical diversity data of Manihot esculenta Crantz. (manioc or cassava), obtained through a bibliographic review.
