Postdoctoral Scientist (social-ecological modeling) – Alaska

The Resilience and Adaptive Management Group at the University of Alaska Anchorage in conjunction with the Institute of Northern Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow to perform computational research related to computer visualization, modeling, and development of social-ecological assessment tools. The successful candidate will work with social and environmental scientists as well as engineers in developing analytical tools related to water and society.

Requirements include a PhD degree (already received, or having completed all requirements and waiting graduation) in computer science or a related computational discipline. The successful candidate should have familiarity with agent-based, stochastic, evolutionary, and game theory modeling techniques. Programming languages desired include Java, C, and C++. Candidate should have the ability to work independently while functioning as part of a research team. Publications on social or ecological modeling are a plus.

The position is based in Anchorage, Alaska with regular visits to Fairbanks, Alaska anticipated.

The desired start date is 1 September, 2009. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
